Demo Against Foie Gras

On Saturday members of the Auckland Animal Rights Collective held a protest outside Zarbo against the selling of foie gras. Foie gras is the diseased and fattened liver of ducks and geese and is produced by force feeding factory farmed ducks or Geese. Zarbo have been given information about the sick reality behind foie gras industry, including footage of foie gras farms. Zarbo are refusing to remove it because money is more important to them than animal lives. A noisy and lively demo was held outside of Zarbo with pedestrians stopping by, many giving us support. The shop and cafe ended up with all windows and doors shut to keep out the chants of activists making them responsible for supporting animal abuse. Cops who were present had no problem with our use of whistles a siren and megaphones and were only concerned with working out when we were finishing so they could tell the neighbouring stores.

We will be having a protest outside Zarbo this coming Saturday if you are interested email animalrightscollective@gmail.com

Since the beginning of the foie gras campaign, three stores/restaurants have agreed to remove it from their shelves including The French Cafe, The Barrow, and La Cigale. Their have also been storys in the Herald on Sunday and The Aucklander about foie gras. More stores are out there and we will contacting them. We will be keeping the pressure on Zarbo to go foie gras free.
